Obituary: JIMMY JOE DURHAM

Jimmy “Joe” Durham, 70, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, January 23, 2024, with his loving wife and son by his side.

Joe was born in Rockingham County on September 3, 1953, to the late Richard and Mary Sharp Durham. He was the 11th of 14 children. Joe attended Christ United Baptist Church as long as he was able and also kept the grass mowed there for over 20 years. He worked most of his life as a logger until becoming disabled. Joe enjoyed being outside mowing grass or working in the garden when the weather allowed, otherwise, you could find him watching a western or a John Wayne movie.

Joe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice Fulp Durham; one son, Joseph “Davin” Durham and wife Brandi; two grandsons, Joseph “Dustin” Durham and wife Summer and Holden “Dale” Durham and girlfriend Lauren Keatts; two great grandchildren that he loved very much, Norah Claire and Evan Carter Durham; his brother, Glennwood “Bill” Durham of Eden; his sister, Katie Durham Lester of Reidsville; a special niece, Tina Stump; his mother-in-law, Jeanine Fulp; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Wanda Durham; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Henry (Crip), Burnice (Bud), Raymond (Ring), Curtis (Dig), Lewis (Noke), Bobby (Toe Joe), Johnny, and Jack Durham; his sisters, Mary Ellen Smith, Shirley Cobb, and Frances Hodges; and his father-in-law, Robert D. Fulp.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, January 25, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at the home. A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Ray Funeral Home with Pastor J.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Floyd Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank everyone for all the acts of kindness expressed to them over the last few months.
