Jean Chaney Collins, 95, of Eden passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Gibson House Hospice Home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday, December 5, 2022, at Hampton Heights Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Ridge-View Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 am before the service at the church and other times at the residence.

Jean was born in Ferrum, Virginia on October 5, 1927, a daughter of Jeremiah Chaney and Lucy Hall Chaney, both deceased.  She was a homemaker, a loving and generous person who always put others above herself.  She was a charter member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church and served her church and community through the Willing Workers and The Lord’s Pantry.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Andrew “Gyp” Collins, Jr.; her daughter, Karen Southern; siblings, Maggie Nichols, Mozell Rorrer, Alice Rorrer, Lorene Chaney, Aaron Chaney, Lester Chaney, Sarah Elizabeth Chaney, Jackson Chaney, Leonard Chaney, and Marshall Chaney.

Jean is survived by her son, Jerry Collins of the home; her sisters, Clemmie Chaney of Fairystone, VA, Vinie Donovant of Eden; her granddaughter, Frances Cochran; and her great grandchildren, Makala Cochran and Caroline Cochran.
