Janie Payne Gentry, 95, died on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Jacob’s Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Gentry was born on January 30, 1929 in Rockingham County to the late Billy Payne and Lillie Ore Payne. She was of the Baptist faith and retired from Washington Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, McKinley Coolidge Gentry; daughter, Janice Gentry Farmer; great-grandson, McKinley Farmer; brothers, William “Buster” Payne and John Payne and sisters, Myrtle Washburn, Mabel Shelton, Annie Shelton and Gwen Payne.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Leon Farmer of Stoneville; grandsons, Steven Farmer (Meghan) of Ruffin and Kevin Farmer (Kristy) of Keeling, VA; step-grandson, David Farmer (Margaret) of Rockingham; great-grandchildren, Evan Purnell, Owen Farmer, Ella Farmer and Ruby Farmer; seven nieces and three nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Todd Vaughn, 4837 NC Hwy 704, Madison, NC 27025.
