Obituary: JANET SUE WHITT

By | Published | No Comments

Janet Sue Whitt departed this earth on July 19, 2024 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. She was born May 20, 1954 in Patrick County, Virginia to Billy and Era G. Whitt.

Janet had a very varied career, retiring as a respiratory therapist, operating Whitt’s Furniture Gallery, and serving as Mayor of Danbury since 2009.

Janet was born a free spirit and she marched to the beat of her own drum…..and she did it beautifully. Her personality was larger than life and she made everyone that knew her feel special (usually providing special treats/gifts/or lengthy texts of some sort!)

She was also a devoted dog mom to her pets, Savannah and Sidney, and flying squirrel mom to Radar and Gracie Mae. Above all, Janet loved her family and friends, and she especially doted on her young cousins, Harper, Conner and Landrie.

Janet was predeceased by her parents.

Those left to always cherish her memory are her sister Sherry M. Whitt; brother-in-law Raymond C. Brown, III.; special aunt Ardina Fulp (and Fulp family); cousin Charlotte Scott; special friends Tanya Gardner, Joey Smith, and Carol Auzins, and many other special cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Colonial Funeral Home in Sandy Ridge, NC from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral service will be Monday, July 22, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Danbury Community Church in Danbury, NC. Family will receive friends at other times at the home of Sherry and Raymond at 1464 High Valley Road, King, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hard Bank Cemetery c/o Mark Flinchum, 1623 Piney Grove Church Road, Danbury, NC 27016 or any charity of donor’s choice.

Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge is assisting the family.
