Obituary: JAMES OLIVER SLADE

James Oliver Slade, the beloved husband of Linda “Nikkie” Pettiford Slade, departed this life on Thursday morning, February 9, 2023. 

He was a native of Rockingham County, North Carolina where he was born on January 25, 1967 to James Slade and the late Patricia Ann Mullins Fearington.  James graduated from Reidsville Senior High in 1986.  He later learned masonry under the guidance of the late William “Poppa” Simpson and used these skills along with many others until his health declined.  He loved traveling, camping and fishing. 

In addition to his mother, James was preceded in death by his aunt, Daisy and two grandsons, Esquire, Jr. and Moni. 

James leaves behind his loving wife of 23 years, Linda Pettiford Slade of the home; father, James Slade (Annie) of Reidsville; mother-in-law, Betty Pointer of Milton; six children, James Slade (Amber) of Eden, Sirmenda Pettiford (Mike) of Reidsville, Sir David Pettiford of Burlington, Esquire Pettiford (Vanesha) of Reidsville, LaJessica Pettiford (Terrius) of Raleigh and Corey Thomas (Morgan) of Lexington; grandchildren, La’Taivia, Nickia, Sir Davion, Makahya, Jakayvian, Kayden, Essence, Zari, Chase, Camden, A’mani, Josiah, Andraea, Jaydin, Chante and Alexus; great-grandchild, Ja’Liyah; brothers, Nathaniel Slade (Tiffany) and Howard Slade (Heavenly) of Reidsville; in-laws, James Pointer (Tamika) of Milton, Raleatha Pointer (LaNeil) of Semora, Senora Pointer of Blanch, Jessica Brown (Kevin) of Milton, Tedra Noell (Stuart) of Milton, Brian Pyles (Tara) of Timberlake, David Pettiford (April) of Milton; special nephew, Eric Chandler of Blanch; special friend, James Corbin of Richmond, Virginia.  He leaves to cherish many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2023 from the Rocky Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, 1624 Highway 158 East with Overseer B. Stephon Brown presiding.  The family visitation will be Friday from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. at the church.
