James Leroy Pegram, 95, of Reidsville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday September 23, 2024 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital Greensboro, NC

Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 28, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Woodmont United Methodist Church with Rev. Christi Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery. The family will see friends on Friday September 27, 2024 from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at Citty Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.

A lifelong resident of Rockingham County, Leroy was a son of the late James W. “Jim” and Beatrice Boone Pegram. Leroy was a former building contractor and retired as the co-owner of Pegram Brothers Marine Supply and Sporting Goods. Leroy proudly served as a reserve member of the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department, where he held the distinction of being the oldest reserve officer.

Leroy was an active member of Woodmont United Methodist Church and is a lifetime member of the Woodmont United Methodist Men. He was a Coast Guard Certified Sea Captain and a certified scuba diver, known for taking friends on memorable fishing trips. He was also a former member and past president of the Reidsville Jaycees, a charter member of the Reidsville Rescue Squad and was a former member of the Reidsville Planning Board.

An accomplished artist, Leroy was skilled in stained glass, and metalwork, particularly known for his woodstoves. His passion for woodworking, included crafting dulcimers, which earned him recognition far and wide. He also enjoyed horses and served as Wagon Master for the local Wagon Train during various parades.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Robert Neal Pegram, and sisters: Florence Adelaide Parker and Betsy Pegram Boone.

Survivors include his wife of 74 years: Gloria Setliff Pegram of the home, his son: James G. Pegram (Lynda) of Greensboro, his daughter: Debra Pegram-Burrell (Scott) of Bethel, VT, sister: Dorothy P. Comer of Jefferson, GA, grandchildren: Kristy Burrell, Georgia Burrell, Mary Claire Pegram, Lyndsay Warren (Skylar), Lauren Pyper (Cody) and Harrison Pegram, great grandchildren: Jamesen Roussel, Amya Roussel, Finnley Roussel, Leighton Roussel, Isla Roussel, Luke Pyper, Grayson Pyper, and Oliver Warren.
