James “Jimmy” Neal Martin, 79, passed away Wednesday morning, August 24, 2022, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, August 28th, at Colonial Funeral Home & Chapel with burial to follow in the Neal Family Cemetery in Belews Creek. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (2 – 3 PM) at the funeral home.
Jimmy was born May 8, 1943 in Forsyth County, NC, the son of the late James J. Martin and Pearl Neal Martin. He was a retired mail carrier for the US Postal Service. In his younger years, he enjoyed raising horses and for seven years he was a modified race car driver, racing at Ace Speedway and Bowman Gray Speedway. Jimmy has always loved attending car races.
He is survived by his fiancée, Shirley Caldwell of the home; step-sons, David Reynolds (Ernestine) and Ray Reynolds (Holly); step-daughter, Wendy Hicks (David); 10 step-grandchildren, Amber, Carrie, Savannah, Brian, Blake, Adam, Katelyn, Rayna, Haley and Logan; five step-great-grandchildren, Natalie, Maggie, Mariah, Bentley and Courtney; along with his best friends, Ronnie Ames, Kevin Brim, Mark Southern (who was the son he never had) and Benny Roland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, T. A. Martin and sister, Mary King.
Colonial Funeral Home & Chapel in Madison is serving the family.
