James Jamar Slade, the beloved husband of Amber Watkins Slade, departed this life on Tuesday evening, October 24, 2023.

As a native and lifelong resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina, he attended the local public schools and was a graduate of Reidsville High School, Class of 2008 (outstanding football player). He was presently employed by Car Needs and William’s Service Station. He was a former truck driver for Mabe’s Trucking. Spiritually, he was a member of Bold Springs Baptist Church. “Smiley”, “Cadillac” and “J.J”, as he was affectionately referred by family and close friends, was a car enthusiast and enjoyed repairing automobiles. Being adored and loved by all who knew him, “J.J.” possessed an empathetic nature and was always willing to help others.

His father, James Oliver Slade, preceded him in death.

Survivors are: loving wife, Amber Watkins Slade; step-children, Alexus, Andrea, Jaydin and Chante; beloved parents, Kimberly Doe Graves (William); step-mother, Linda Pettiford Slade; sisters and brothers, Ja’mia Graves, Kimmie Graves and Trey Graves; additional sisters and brothers; grandparents, Annie Winchester Doe, Robert Lee Doe, Jr. and James O. Slade (Anna); aunts and uncles, LeWanda Doe, Donna Graves, Kimberly Galloway (Ken), Mae Slade, Nathaniel Slade (Tiffany), Howard Slade (Dee), Serena Martin, Chelisa Martin and Linnie Graves (Rachelle); great aunts and great uncles, Malinda Lazndy, Shirley Sims, Alice Doe, Christine Brown (Rev. Jerald), Betty Woodard (Tim), Herman Slade, William Slade, Curtis Slade (Rev. Rainey), Robert Slade, Maggie Graves, James Winchester (Jean), Lorren Patterson (James) and Dorothy Mae Slade; special uncles, Tyree Hairston and William Pass; god mother, Wendy Simpson (Derwood); a host of god brothers and sisters; special brothers, Stefone Graves and Rashawn Wilkerson; mother-in-law, Georgia Watkins; brother-in-law, Jonathan Watkins (Tiersa); other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2023 from the Zion Baptist Church, 807 Piedmont Street with Elder Donielle Faison presiding and Rev. Samuel Scales, the eulogist. The family visitation will be Thursday from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Public viewing will be Wednesday afternoon at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street.
