James Dillard Walker “J.D.”, 91, of Ruffin, passed away peacefully, at his home on Saturday, February 25th, surrounded by his family.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Happy Home Church with Pastor Jerry Lankford officiating. Burial will follow at Happy Home Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
J.D. was born in Rockingham County to the late James and Laura Walker. He loved hunting, fishing, farming, and the Atlanta Braves. He also was the owner and operator of Walker’s Grocery for 55 years. He was a lifelong member, deacon, and trustee of Happy Home Church since 1947.
J.D. is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley J. Walker; daughters, Dr. Doiless Puglese (Louis), June Underwood (Steve), and Chattie James (Tim); grandchildren, Dillon James, Fiona Puglese, Wyatt James (Hannah), Mary-Lou Puglese and Maria Puglese; sister, Yvonne Smith (Bobby); and nephew, Bobby Dean Smith (Anita).
