Obituary: JAMES BENTON SHOUGH

James “Benton” Shough, 80, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 15, 2022, at Gibson House in Reidsville.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, June 20th, at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charlie Carter officiating.

Benton was born February 2, 1942 in Rockingham County, NC, to the late James Henry Shough and Mary McBride Shough. He was a farmer and enjoyed being on his tractor and tending to his mules.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Alley Shough; son, James “Daniel” Shough; two daughters, Teresa Lynn “Purdy” Whitfield (Adam) and Mary Ann Townsend; honorary daughter, Nicole Richards (Chris); six grandchildren, James Townsend, Henry Purdue, Cassandra Shough, Carly Richards, Mary Elizabeth Whitfield and Loretta Rose Whitfield; brothers, Willie Ray Shough (Debra) and Thomas Henry Shough; four sisters, Rindia “Faye” Bullins (Donnie), Mary Caroline King, Ada Mae Prescott (Ron) and Henrietta Johnson (Bobby); and special friends, John and Denise Lafferty.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Ann Jenkins and Nancy Lou Chaney.

Colonial Funeral Home & Chapel in Madison is serving the family.
