Obituary: JAMES ALLEN DURHAM

James Allen Durham, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Moses Cone Hospital.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

James was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Wentworth and was a former member of the American Legion Honor Guard, Post 79 Reidsville. James served in the United States Army Signal Corps from 1966-1968 before he was honorably discharged. He was constantly tinkering to keep busy and many home projects including solar, wood, farming, and various other things. James was a talented mechanic and later became the owner and operator of Durham Services Forklift Repair. He loved the Lord and was proud of his 1611 King James Version Bible. James was also a devoted family man who loved his children and grandchildren dearly, but more than anything he loved his wife, Kay, with all his heart and always put her first. James will be remembered as a great storyteller, and supervisor/ instructor who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Ennis Durham; son, James Allen Durham, Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Margaret Griffin.

James is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kay Durham; children, Junae’ Lawrence and Jeremy; Matthew Durham, Michael Durham and Brittany, Carolyn Manley and Brandon, Matt Durham and Katie, “Little” James Durham and Tia; 13 grandchildren, Eleanor, Kallie and Reilly, Anna, Cayden, Mason, Braylynn, Harper, Gabby, Isabelle, Preston Colt, Abel, Allison, and Penelope; brother’s, John “Tee” Durham and Nancy, Lynn Durham and Geneva; sister-in-law, Linda Wilson and nephew, Shawn Wilson; special nephew, Zachary Stowe, in addition to numerous other extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105

The family would like to say a thank you to the friends and family for all of their support and prayers during his extended illness and to the LVAD care team and the nurses and staff on 2C at Moses Cone Hospital.

James is now a twinkling light in the starry sky of heaven.
