Jack Alfred Holcomb, Jr., 90, of Madison, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A private graveside service will be held with Rev. Randy Jessup officiating. For those wishing to pay their respects, a register book can be signed at Ray Funeral Home.
Jack was born in Grayson County, VA on May 21, 1932, to the late Jack Alfred, Sr. and Jessie Smith Holcomb. He worked for Norfolk Western Railroad and traveled from Winston Salem to Hagerstown, MD. He also loved a good hot dog. Jack was a real familiar businessman who operated Holcomb’s Used Cars for over 50 years, as well as a real character who had a great smile and laugh but didn’t mind calling you out. He could really tell it like it was, but people seemed to love him for it. He shared a love of antique cars with his wife, Betty and three sons. Together they took their cars to shows up and down the East Coast. Some of his restored cars were of museum quality. If he loved anything more than working—he had that old work ethic you seldom see anymore—it was his wife, Betty, to whom he was married 74 years, raising three boys. He got to know just about everyone worth knowing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Betty Holt Holcomb of the home; his three sons, Leigh Holcomb of Madison, Lynn Holcomb of Madison, and John Holcomb of Mayodan; and his brother, Roy Holcomb and wife Shirley of Stoneville.
Ray Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Jack Holcomb and all are invited to share memories and offer condolences at www.rayfuneralhome.com.
