Ila Richardson Hughes, 96, received her crown of glory and was called home to heaven on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Madison United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at the home of her daughter, Gayle Shelton.
Ila was a member of the Madison United Methodist Church where her and her late husband, John Robert Hughes were married. They were united in marriage for fifty-seven years. She loved her church where she attended faithfully and served her community as long as she was able to do so. Ila went to work for Washington Mills out of high school as an office worker and retired in 1990 so she could spend time with her only grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Hughes, her parents, Hardee and Victoria Richardson; her brothers, Hassell, Otis and Clyde Richardson; her sisters, Jane Collins and Ruby Richardson and special friend, Robert Vandewedge.
Survivors include her daughters, Paige Carlton and Gayle Shelton (Ray) of Mayodan; grandson, Colby Joyce and great-grandson, Nate Rumley, also of Mayodan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Triad Office, 4615 Dundas Drive, Suite 103, Greensboro, NC 27407.
