Ms. Ida Hockaday Cobb departed this life on Tuesday morning, January 31, 2023.
She was a native of Newport News, Virginia and a resident of North Carolina for the past 33 years. “Dee”, as she was affectionately referred by family and close friends, was a member of the High Rock Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served with the Board of Ushers and was a former employee of the United States Postal Service. During her leisure, she enjoyed cooking, cleaning, taking care of her godchildren and watching the soap operas.
Her parents, Estey Hunter Hockaday and Thomas Hockaday; siblings, Charles, Robert, Willie, Herbert, Pamela, Delores and Mary Hockaday; niece, Charisma Hockaday and an aunt, Florence Simmons, preceded her in death.
Survivors are: beloved husband of 50 years, Jackie Cobb; step-son, Donnie Martin; sister, Lilia Hockaday (Antonio); brothers, Daniel Hockaday, Theodore Hockaday (Mary) and Leroy Hunter; great-niece, Jaayla Hockaday; great-nephews, Janiere Diggs and Jaquez Tynes; godchildren, Alisha Neal, Majestik Slade and Diamond; sisters-in-law, Shirley Johnson (Edward), Brenda Galloway (Elmer), Diane Cobb and Deborah Mack (Jimmy); brothers-in-law, Donnie Cobb (Lee Lee), David Cobb, Sr., Gregory Cobb, Calvin Cobb and Richard Cobb; special friends, Samantha Neal and Robin Foster; additional nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2023 from the Greenlawn Memorial Park, 2700 Parish Avenue, Newport News, Virginia 23607. Public viewing will be Friday afternoon at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street.
