Hubert Hunter Baughn, 88, died on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at UNC Health Rockingham in Eden.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Mr. Baughn was born on June 4, 1936 in Rockingham County to the late Jessie Baughn and Clara Holt Baughn. Hubert worked several years at Burlington Industries and then served the Town of Mayodan for two decades. He was instrumental in the construction of Ferris Park and later became the Superintendent of the Water Treatment Plant. Hubert was a man of strong faith, reading his Bible faithfully and cherishing his relationship with his Lord and Savior. He loved his wife and children, as well as his son-in law, Tom; always putting them first. In his leisure time, Hubert enjoyed watching westerns and preaching, as well as gospel, bluegrass and country music on television.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard Baughn and William “Boney” Baughn and sisters, Ruby Baughn, Merle Hooks and Doris Floyd.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Helen Hopper Baughn of the home; son, Barry Baughn of Greensboro; daughter, Valarie Baughn Tesh (Tom) of Germanton and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and/or Brenner Children’s Hospital.
