Howard Lee Bowman, 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, left this earthly life Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
A private graveside service will be held for the family. Friends may sign a register and pay their respects from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday and from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge.
Howard was born in Patrick County, Virginia on December 3, 1938. He attended Peters Creek Baptist Church, retired with 34 years of service from Georgia Pacific Corrugated (J & J Southeast Corrugated), Ridgeway, VA.
He was devoted to his family, supportive in his grandchildren’s activities. They were the joy of his life, “The apple of his eye”. Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and was always willing to help others. He had the most manicured lawn that was the envy of his neighbors. Howard had a great sense of humor and had a beautiful smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alex Bowman and Bessie Craddock Bowman; brothers, Malvin “Mal” Craddock, Ray Bowman, Herman Bowman, Bob Bowman, and an infant brother, Douglas Bowman, and a sister, Carol Stephens.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Judy Darlene Collins Bowman; daughters, Wendy Joyce (Dane) and Sherry Wall (Todd); brothers, Robert, Russell, Gilmer (Gil), Dallas, and Keith Bowman, a sister, Nancy Hopkins; grandchildren, Laken Joyce Nall (Donnie); Logan Wall Evans (Elijah); great-grandchildren, Emersyn Nall and Ensley Nall.
