Obituary: HELEN CLAYTON SOMERS

Ada Helen Clayton Somers, 102 and one half years old, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Gibson House.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3:30 PM Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Locust Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery (281 Stoney Creek School Rd. Reidsville, NC 27320) with Rev. Ralph Clayton officiating. The family will see friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Citty Funeral Home. There will be a reception and light meal served in the church fellowship hall following the graveside service

A native of Caswell Co., she was a daughter of the late George Lee and Leona Moorefield Clayton and she had lived in the Williamsburg Community of Rockingham County. Mrs. Somers had been an employee of Sears and she was the oldest member of Locust Hill United Methodist Church, a former member of the choir and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Caswell Co. Home Demonstration Club and she was an accomplished artist having done many oil paintings. Helen was still mowing her yard and working in her flowers when she was 97 years old. She enjoyed sitting on her screened porch watching her blue birds build their nests and raise there broods. She loved having Sunday lunches with her family after church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Gordon Lawrence Somers, her grandson: Tracy Wayne Somers, her siblings: Elwood Clayton, Julius Lee Clayton, Ercell C. Satterfield, Geneva C. Williamson and Leona C. Cobb.

Surviving are her sons: Larry Gordon Somers (Mary Lynn) and Danny George Somers (Maggie) all of Reidsville, her daughter: June Somers Pape of Reidsville, her grandchildren: Penny Marie Somers Mora, Lawrence Bowen Somers (Deborah), Ricky Lee Somers, Clayton Dowd Somers (Kristen), Reagan Pape (Allison MacCumbee), Joel Pape and Kiah Gaskin (Jason), 9 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Gibson House in Wentworth for their care and compassion.
