Mrs. Gloria Jean Blackwell Johnson departed this life on Monday morning, March 11, 2024.
As a native and lifelong resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina, she was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1967 and was a retiree of Annie Penn Hospital after 43 years of service. Spiritually, she was a faithful member of Rocky Ridge Missionary Baptist Church where she served with the Culinary Committee. During her leisure, she loved collecting China pieces and admired the beauty of flowers.
Her parents, Mattie Sue Hooper Blackwell and Oscar Roy Blackwell; beloved husband, Willie “Sandy” Johnson, III; siblings, Leroy Blackwell, Joe Lewis Blackwell, Howard Dennis Blackwell, Patricia Henderson, LeVon Ulvano, Bruce Anthony Blackwell and Alphonso Mills, preceded her in death.
Survivors are: sisters and brothers, Doris Blackwell- Brown, Brenda Richards, Mary Henderson, Sandra Blackwell, George Larry Blackwell, Kenneth Blackwell (Rhonda), John Gary Blackwell, Edward Blackwell (Rosemary), Michael “Ricky” Blackwell (Jeanette), Daryl Willis, Douglas Willis and Leon Mills; uncles and aunts, Thomas Hooper, Sr. (Barbara), Mildred Benton, Marie Slade (Theron) and Lorenzo Hooper; special nieces, Lauren McKiver and Rochelle Long; special cousin, Joyce Blackwell; father-in-law, Willie Lee Johnson, II; devoted friends, Shirley Graves, Evelyn King and Kathy Hall; other relatives and friends.
