Glenda Lou Frye, 79, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at North Pointe of Mayodan.
A 1:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Jessup and Rev. Victoria Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00 noon and at all other times at the home of her sister, Kaye, 3550 US 220 Business, Stoneville, NC 27048.
Glenda was born in Rockingham County on December 15, 1942, to the late Arnold and Ruby Richardson Frye. She graduated from Stoneville High School in 1961, later attended UNC Chapel Hill, and received her masters from George Peabody College in Nashville. Glenda was a very talented artist, especially pottery, and also taught art classes in public school and to Native American children in New Mexico. She enjoyed working with clay and oil paintings. She was commissioned by the Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia to create a beautiful mural in their lobby that is still there today. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Mayodan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Gene Reid.
She is survived by her sister, Kaye Frye Reid of Stoneville; her cousin, Vikki P. Melvin of Reidsville; her nephew, Jeffrey Reid; great nieces, Jennifer Melvin Yates (Dave), Rev. Victoria Reid, and Rebecca Powell Ogburn (David); great-great nieces and nephews, Sadie Ane and Jameson Lasley, Owen and Pearson Yates, Alice Kay, Emma, Rocklynn, and Khaki Ogburn; and a special friend, Lesley Carter
