Glen Cameron Slayton “Magoo”, 65, of Reidsville, went to be with the Lord Sunday October 1, 2023 while playing tennis.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life and receiving of friends on Saturday October 14, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Fellowship Baptist Church in Eden.
A native of Wichita, KS, he was a son of the late Bobby John and Myrle White Slayton and had lived in Reidsville for most of his life. Glen attended Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS and Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN on baseball scholarships. He was a graduate of Tennessee Temple University with a degree in Physical Education and was a true Jayhawk and Tar Heel fan. Coach Slayton was an avid sports player and loved all athletics in which he was involved in many different ways throughout his life including little league baseball, high school sports, college baseball, church league ball, and was a referee and umpire for many years. He taught physical education and coached for over 30 years at a number of schools including Tucson Christian Academy in Tucson, AZ, Community Baptist School in Reidsville, and Westover Christian Academy in Danville, VA. He also taught and coached at Rockingham County Senior High School. While at Community Baptist School he started the Little Conquerors sports program. After teaching, he worked for Henniges Automotive in Reidsville. He was a member of Osborne Baptist Church in Eden. He enjoyed mentoring and coaching children and youth.
Above all, Glen had an unwavering faith in God and an unmatched devotion and love as a husband, father, and Pop.
He was preceded in death by a nephew: Heath Slayton, father-in-law: Jacob Blair, sister-in-law: Mary Blair, and brother-in-law: John Van Dam.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 42 years whom he met at Tennessee Temple University and adored: Bobbie Jean Blair Slayton of the home, son: Cameron Gean Slayton (Tori) of Stanfield, daughters: Sarah Slayton Evans (Ben), and Gloria Christian Slayton both of Ruffin, grandchildren: Silas Blake Evans and Briar Slayton Evans, mother-in-law: Sarah Blair of Charlotte, brothers: John Slayton of Tulsa, OK and Dave Slayton (Judy) of El Dorado, KS, sister: Toni Anderson (Thomas) Cortez, CO, sister-in-law: Debra Van Dam of Charlotte, brothers-in-law: Jim Blair (Kathy) of Chattanooga, TN, and Jack Blair (Melinda) of Weatherford, TX, and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
