Geraldine Joyce Johnson, 75, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023, after a courageous 25 year battle with cancer.
A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday afternoon, October 22nd, at The Refuge with burial to follow in Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6 – 8 PM, at Colonial Funeral Home & Chapel in Madison and other times at the residence.
Geraldine, a native of Rockingham County, NC, was born August 8, 1948 to the late Clarence Luther Joyce and Mae Martin Joyce. She was a loving and caring person who never met a stranger. She loved her church and was, as described by her family, a “giver” who was always willing to do for others. Geraldine was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She loved her church, her grandchildren and all the family get-togethers. Her favorite holiday was Christmas when she could be with all the ones she held so dear. She will be remembered as a strong and fierce woman of faith.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gene Johnson; son, Jeff Johnson (Janis); daughter, Gina Rintelmann; three grandchildren, Emileigh Johnson (Hunter), Jolie Rintelmann Alarcon (Carlos) and Caleb Johnson (Sydney); sisters, Peggy Glave and Teresa Manuel; special niece, Renee Gilbert; special friends, Donna Newsome, Bonnie Beasley, Jane Joyce and Linda Pulliam; along with her beloved dog, “Tucker”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Kurt Rintelmann; brothers, Jackie Joyce and Johnny Joyce and sisters, Irene Heaton and Minnie Lee Williams.
