George William Smith, Jr., 82, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Hospice of Alamance County.
George was born on October 3, 1941, to the late George Smith Sr. and Katie Page Smith. He was in the class of 1960 from Anderson High School and married his wife, Barbara Ann that same year. George was employed as a truck driver, for many years, until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and loved to golf with family and friends. After his retirement, you could often find him cruising on his golf cart around the neighborhood.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Ann Smith; three sons, William Todd Smith (Beverly), Rodney David Smith (Cathy), and Teddy Warren Smith (Beth); one beloved granddaughter, Summer Ann Smith; sisters, Betty Jean Coleman and Judy Farmer in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to Authora Care (formerly Hospice & Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell), 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
The family would like to extend a thank you to all the family and friends for their love, support and prayers during his illness, and a special thank you to the staff at Hospice for his excellent care.
