George Moricle Pennell, 70, passed away Monday night, November 14, 2022, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, November 17th, at Bald Hill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6 – 8 PM, at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison.
A Rockingham County native, George was born July 5, 1952, to the late Jefferson Hall Pennell and Etta Mae Stone Pennell. He was a retiree of Morflex Chemical Company. George enjoyed going to turkey shoots, fishing, hunting, thrifting and spending time at his church.
He is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Diane Tilley Pennell of the home; three sons, George Moricle Pennell, Jr. (Anisha) of Stoneville, Thomas Jefferson Pennell (Sandra) of Madison and James Allen Pennell of Madison; daughter, Sue Dunlap (Pete) of Madison; 12 grandchildren, Josh, Katie, Josh, Brandon, Brittany, Marisa, Taylor, Madison, Logan, Billy, Payton and Thomas; six great-grandchildren, Emma, Willow, Amos, Thomas, Karsyn and Jackson; five brothers, Raymond Pennell, Connie Pennell, Talmadge Pennell, Russell Pennell and Steve Pennell; sisters, Mary Marshall and Kaye Stanley; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Trey Pennell; sister, Bertie Dale and brother, Fred Pennell.
