George “JR” Robert Goad, Jr., 88, passed away Thursday morning, December 21, 2023, at Gibson House (Ancora Compassionate Care) in Reidsville.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Mayodan Methodist Church with Reverend Garrett Collins and Reverend Charles Penley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Mr. Goad was born on February 11, 1935 in Rockingham County, NC, to the late George Robert Goad, Sr. and Elsie Edwards Goad. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, while a part of the 82nd Airborne as a Paratrooper. JR worked for Sears & Roebuck for 35 years before retiring. Following his retirement he enjoyed woodworking and being a handyman for many friends and neighbors. He was a dedicated member of the Mayodan Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader and on various committees. He will forever be remembered as a good and faithful servant to his church and his community.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Hall Goad; nieces, Carolyn Cardwell (Donny Martin), Donna Johnson, Linda Taylor, Gaye Gann and Bonnie Knight; nephew, Warren Moore and many special nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Goad; brother, Dexter Goad and sisters, Elsie Simmons, Velna Goad and Gertrude Goad.
