Obituary: GENEVIEVE ESTELLA MORTON

Genevieve Estella Morton, born March 6, 1934, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 10, 2022, age 88.

Preceded in death by daughter Marcia Ann; mother and father, Veronica (Joslyn) and Michael Matyjewiczi; sister, Helen; and brothers, Joseph, Leon, and Richard.

She is survived by sons: Gary, Stephan, Mark (Gail), and Ray, Jr. (Jenna) DeWispelaere; daughters, Marianne (Tom) Waters, and Patricia DeWispelaere; grandchildren, Tracy Waters, Jacob (Wendy) Waters, Renee Allen, Meghan (Justin) Burgdorf; great-grandchildren, Hannah (Sean), and Julian Noble, Weston and Mareyn Burgdorf; and stepson, Ricky Morton.

Our mother moved to North Carolina over 30 years ago and quickly adapted to and adopted the warm, southern kindness, culture, and community she served as a certified nursing assistant and home health aide. She was known to many as “Geneva” and quickly became “Mama” as her kindness and generosity touched the lives of others.

We love you Mama and may you continue to guide us through our Good Lord above.

There will be no services. Donations can be made to the local church of your faith. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Hospice of Rockingham County.
