Obituary: GARY “FROG” WAYNE ELLINGTON

Gary “Frog” Wayne Ellington, 81, of Stoneville, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at his home.

A 3:30 p.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Ray Funeral Home with Pastor Russell Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Stoneville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:30 p.m. and all other times at the home.

Frog was born in Rockingham County on December 25, 1942, to the late James and Betty Cox Ellington. He was a member of Stoneville Pentecostal Holiness Church and worked for the town of Mayodan for 37 years and the town of Stoneville for 5 years. He was also a dedicated volunteer fireman with Stoneville Fire Department Station 70 for over 17 years. Frog was loved by many, had a great sense of humor, and would always try to make others around him laugh. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed birds and loved collecting bird houses.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Clifford Wayne Ellington; his sisters, Margaret Joyce, Pat Taylor, Betty Jo Patterson, and Lena Mae Dodson; and his brothers, Vernon Ellington, Jack Thomas Ellington, and James Filmore Ellington, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Dorothy “Dot” Coleman Ellington of the home; his son, Gary Lee Ellington (Lisa) of Reidsville; his daughter-in-law, Angie Plummer Ellington of Mayodan; his brother, Roy Lee Ellington (Mary) of Stoneville; eight grandchildren, Nora Brooke Ellington, Carson Wayne Ellington, Samantha Comer, Katelyn Martin, Kendall Grant Ellington, Krystal Jordan, Brooke Cobb, and Tyler Birchett; eight great grandchildren with one on the way; one great-great grandchild; special friends and caregivers, Jerald Champion, Ben Carter, Cole Mueller, and Titus Sparks and family; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
