Obituary: FRED “JIMMY” BARNES

Fred “Jimmy” James Barnes, 81, died on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mark Smith and Reverend Rudy Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the White’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Ridgeway, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison.

Mr. Barnes was born on February 14, 1942 in Gretna, Virginia to the late William Perry Barnes, II and Elva Teague Barnes. Jimmy worked for Laughlin-Sutton Construction Company in Greensboro for many years. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed visiting his friends and socializing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Smith Barnes; daughters, Marie Barnes Hill and Natalie “Tinker” Barnes Wood and brothers, William Perry Barnes, III and Sammy Kay Barnes.

Survivors include his daughters, Vickie Keith (Paul) and Susan “Skip” Roberts; son, Fred “Pee Wee” Barnes, Jr.; grandchildren, Pamela Mabry (Jason), Jessica Slate, David Roberts, Stacy Barnes and Nikki Keaton; great-grandchildren, Kristian Reynolds, Dylan Mabry and Aiden Slate; sisters, Patsy Litchfield (John), Sandra Goodermuth (Gary) and his beloved canine, Scooter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice.

Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
