Frank James Garnier passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024 at his home in Eden, North Carolina.

Frank was born on August 24, 1931 in Paterson, New Jersey to Cornelia Tanis and Frank B. Garnier. He graduated in 1949 from Fairlawn (New Jersey) High School and began his career with Volkart Brothers as a runner on the New York Cotton Exchange. He later received a certificate in Business in 1957 from Rutgers University. Frank’s career exceeded 50 years in the cotton business and retired as Division Vice-President and Director of Cotton Purchasing from Pillowtex in 2001.

In 1955, Frank married Dora Duvall of New Orleans, Louisiana. During their 67 years of marriage, Frank and Dora raised four children: Philip Garnier of Raleigh, North Carolina, Frank Garnier, Jr. (Joseph Lipscomb) of Lincolnville, Maine, Andrew Garnier (Kathy), also of Raleigh and Leslie Crooker (Tyler) of Greensboro, North Carolina. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister Margaret Topp, and his daughter-in-law, Cathy Acevedo. He will be remembered forever in the hearts of his children and six grandchildren, Matthew Garnier (Giovanna), Patrick Garnier, Jacob Garnier, Cristian Garnier, Stella Crooker and Kevin Crooker ( Case).

Frank traveled extensively during his years working for both Volkart Brothers and Fieldcrest/Cannon, within the United States and abroad. He traveled so much that he would joke about building a retirement house like the Holiday Inn because he knew the rooms so well that he could find his way around in the dark. The Holiday Inn never materialized, but he never lost the travel bug. He and Dora traveled the world – to all seven continents. Frank also accomplished one of his retirement goals by visiting all 50 state capitols documenting each visit with photographs and an album.

A visitation will be held Wednesday evening June 19th from 5 to 7 at Fair Funeral Home in Eden. A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday morning June 20th at 10 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens 1821 Ashley Loop in Reidsville, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franciscan Center, 233 North Greene Street, Greensboro, North Carolina 27401 or to ANCORA Compassionate Care, 2250 NC-65, Reidsville, North Carolina 27320.

Frank James Garnier will be remembered as a loving husband, a supportive father, a devoted grandfather, good friend, and a good man.
