Frances “Francy” Anna Rand Sandlin, died Monday, January 23, 2023, at Hospice Gibson House in Wentworth, NC. She was 80 years old.
Frances Anna Rand Sandlin was born to Marland Leroy “Bud” Rand and Marion Jeanne Wright Rand on July 12, 1942, in Portage, WI. Following Bud’s military service, the family moved to Minneapolis, MN where he worked managing a Woolworth’s store. Frances completed high school at St. Benedict’s Girl’s Academy in Crookston, MN, and went on to Texas Women’s University where she obtained a degree in Occupational Therapy. She worked in several hospitals including the VA hospital in Columbia, SC. She taught students of O.T. for several years and did home visits with patients as well in Virginia. Frances loved quilting and made many quilts for family and charity fundraisers.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Jeanne; her brothers Paul and John Rand; her brother-in-law, John York and her spouse, Patricia Griffin.
She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Jo Rand York, of Sandy Ridge, N C, Mary Karen Rand (Melodie Creighton), Margaret Jeanne Rand, both of Oskaloosa, IA, James Rand, of Bellevue, NE, and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date at her sister Barbara York’s home in Sandy Ridge, NC.
