Obituary: FERNANDO UFRET

Fernando “Fred” Ufret, 84, of Eden passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at UNC Rockingham Healthcare.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Friday, July 5, 2024 at Boone & Cooke, Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Warner officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 pm before the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Interment will be in the National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.

Fred was born in Puerto Rico on May 29, 1940, a son of Louis Ufret and Margarita Gutierrez, both deceased. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He was a retired nurse. He loved horse races and worked as a jockey in Buffalo, NY. He loved to play poker. He loved his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Pedro Ufret.

Fred is survived by his wife of 44 years, Roxanne Wyant Ufret of the home; his children, Lacie Bertram (Christopher) of Ruffin, Nathan Ufret of Eden, Kevin Ufret (Vanessa) of Sanford, NC, Damian Ufret of Tampa, FL, Tiffany Hampton (Bruce) of Crawfordville, FL, Johanna McCooey (Brendon of Penfield, NY, and Hector Ufret (Eileen) of Anaheim, CA; his siblings, Olivia Lopez (Pete) of Hicksville, NY, Louie Ufret of Puerto Rico, Ray Ufret (Maria) of Vero Beach, FL, Maria O’Farrell of Hicksville, NY, Kenny Ufret (Celeste) of New Jersey, Rene Ufret of New York, Lydia Mikas (Richard) of Brooklyn, NY; his grandchildren, Michael, Kevin Jr., Adrian, Alisha, Gabriel, Connor, Jameson, Charlotte, Elliott, Destiny, Samantha, Zoey, Levi, Lillian, Freya and Blake; and his great grandchildren, Chaydelis, Keydalis, and Kaydelis.

He will be deeply missed.
