Obituary: EVELYN RAKESTRAW GLASPIE

Evelyn Rakestraw Glaspie, 97, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ralph Clayton officiating. Interment will follow in the Smyrna Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon on Saturday at the funeral home and all other times at the home of her daughter, Tammy Jarrell.

Evelyn was born on June 14, 1927 in Rockingham County to the late John Waddle Rakestraw and Martha Gertrude Carter Rakestraw. She was a loving mother to three and a devoted “Nana” to many.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George K. Glaspie; brothers, John Rakestraw and Willie Rakestraw and sisters, Mary Sutton, Bessie Everette, Soula Mae Knight and Pauline Loftis.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Debbie Starling (Mike), Tammy Jarrell (Tim) and Kevin Gann; grandchildren, Shannon, Tiffany, Josh, Rachel, Taylor, Mandy, Stephanie, Stacey, Michael, Tabbatha, Ashleigh and Haven; thirty-one great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great-grandchildren and sisters, Juanita Robertson, Hazel Martin and Betty Sparks (Billy).

The family wishes to thank the staff of Medi Hospice of Thomasville and caregiver, Carolyn Hearn for their loving and attentive care.
