Ethel Pulliam Matherly, 87, formerly of Stoneville, died Thursday, January 18, 2024, at her place of residence in Fort Myers, Florida with family by her side.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Paul Sisk officiating. Interment will follow in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Matherly was born in Rockingham County on September 8, 1936 to the late Charlie Richard and Luevenia Watkins Pulliam. She was preceded in Death by her late husband, Walter Cole Matherly Jr.. Ethel enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time antiquing and tending to her roses. She was a member of Stone Eden Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by brothers, Charlie Daniel Pulliam and Paul Carter Pulliam.

Survivors include brother, Lester Pulliam and wife, Jeannie; sister, Linda Pulliam; daughter, Deborah Gainey and husband, Bob of Ocean Isle Beach NC; son, Blake Matherly of Fort Myers FL; granddaughter, Cortney Woller and husband, Andrew and great-grandson, Asher of Carbondale CO; lifetime friend, Joyce Fain; and caregiver, Carmen Marin.
