Estelle Riggs Steele, 78, born October 28, 1944, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at home.
A life-long resident of Stokes County, Estelle was a 1962 graduate of Sandy Ridge High School. She was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church since 1968. She retired from E.I. DuPont with 30 years of service and was employed with Colonial Funeral Home Madison as a secretary in 2000 and transferred to Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in 2005 where she served as Office Manager. Estelle was site manager for Ridgemont Place Apartments for 18 years. Estelle loved to be active; walking, mowing, volunteering at the church and any way she could help others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Riggs and Mae Stewart Riggs; son, Rodney Lee Steele, and brothers, Jackie Lee and Franklin Riggs.
Survivors include her son, Randal Dean Steele; father of son and stepmother, Akers and Cathy Steele; sister-in-law, Pat Riggs; extended family, like a daughter and special caregiver, Sarah Willard; like grandchildren, Courtney Willard, Cody Willard (Brooke); like great-grandchildren, Ellyssa Willard, Carleigh and Wyatt Wilson, Brody and Cannon Willard. Estelle is also survived by nephews, Don Riggs (Mary) and Dean Riggs; a niece, Joyce Ann Donley (Wayne), and many cousins.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2023, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Oak Ridge Baptist Cemetery.
