Estelle Virginia Durham Grogan, 95, of Stoneville passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale.
A funeral service will be held 11am Monday, February 13, 2023, at Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church, 241 Smith Rd, Stoneville, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10-11am, at Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Grogan was born October 15, 1927, in Price, NC, to the late James and Lelia Matthews Durham. Mrs. Grogan graduated from Stoneville High School in 1941. She was a lifelong member of Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church, which was founded by her grandfather “Pappy Matthews”. She was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling with her husband to many reunions of the Army Veterans he served with in WWII. She suffered from crippling arthritis for over 40 years, enduring her disability with amazing grace.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Samuel “Sammy” Grogan, Jr. and wife Roz of Moses Lake, Washington; granddaughter, Traci Conway and husband Kenny of Stoneville; great-grandchildren, Brooke Walker and Jordan Walker (Katie) of Stoneville; great-great-grandchild, Johnny Bryce Walker; special niece, Jo Ann Priddy and husband “Blue”; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Grogan was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Samuel Grogan; daughter, Patsy Grogan White; sisters, Mary Ann Joyce, Elsie Ferguson, Classie Durham, and Kathleen Watkins; brother, James “Jimmy” Durham.
