Obituary: ESTEEN CARDWELL

Esteen Cardwell passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. She was born November 21, 1928. Esteen will be remembered as a Mom to many. She was dedicated to her family and friends and was loved dearly by all who knew her. She was an active member of the Church of the Messiah for more than 70 years.

Visitation for Mrs. Cardwell will be Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. in the Parish Hall at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah in Mayodan located at 114 South 2nd Avenue and all other times at the home of her daughter. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the church with the Reverend Robert Rachal officiating with burial to follow at Mayodan Municipal Cemetery.

Esteen is survived by her son, C. Dwight Cardwell (Teresa);

daughter, Debby Cardwell; grandchildren, Tanya, Rene, Sierra and Elizabeth; great grandchildren, Tyler, Baylee, Sequoia, Liam, Aidan, Ashlyn;

nieces and nephews; Carleen Barrowclough, Lee Ellis, Myra Almon, Janice Smith, Doug Cardwell, Dwan Pyrtle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Columbus D. Smith and Dora S. Smith; husband, Cecil Daniel Cardwell; brothers, Otis, Harry and Ernest Smith; sister, Evelyn Pyrtle.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Ancora Compassionate Care who supported the family and guided them through this journey. In addition, a heartfelt thank you to Cindy and Ron Britt, Beckie Knight and Flavel Collins for always being close whenever needed.
