Obituary: ERVIN PORTER COOK

Ervin Porter Cook, 85, departed this earthly life on Monday, May 12, 2025 at Walnut Ridge Assisted Living in Walnut Cove.

The funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home, and other times at the residence. Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery.

Ervin was born in Guilford County on March 7, 1940, to the late Junior Floyd Cook, and Nettie Jane Whitsell Cook. Ervin was a devoted Christian husband, father, and grandfather. He was truly a mild mannered, loving man who never had a cross word with anyone. He retired as a truck driver for Pine Hall Brick Company. He was also an avid sports fan. Ervin was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, and attended Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert Cook, Willie Cook, Lloyd Cook, and James Cook.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth A. Cook of the home; daughter, Tammy Rene Woodall; step-daughters, Deborah Dunlap, and Yvette Holt; brother, Fred Cook; step-grandchildren, Christy Cooper, Brandon Dunlap, and Matthew Biggs; and step-great-grandchildren, Hannah Cooper, Grace Cooper, and Maggie Cooper.
