Ernest Robert Blackwell departed this life on Sunday afternoon, June 11, 2023.
As a native and lifelong resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina, he attended the local public schools and was a former employee of Burlington Industries and the United States Postal Service. During his leisure, he enjoyed pitching horseshoes, fishing, playing baseball and following his favorite football team, The Washington Redskins.
His parents, Doris Alice Blackwell and Willie Green Blackwell; daughter, Linda Blackwell; sister, Willie Mae Lawson; brothers, James, John Willie and Donnie Blackwell, preceded him in death.
Survivors are: sisters, Nancy Broadnax, Ruby Keen (Marvin) and Joyce Blackwell; brothers, Ronnie and Freddie Blackwell; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023 from the chapel of Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street with Pastor Orinzie Hooks presiding. Public viewing will be Friday afternoon at Johnson & Sons.
