Obituary: EMMITT OZELL BYRD

Emmitt Ozell Byrd departed this life on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. 

He was a native of Newberry County, South Carolina and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the majority of his life before relocating to North Carolina.  Mr. Byrd was a veteran of the United States Army and was a retired truck driver.  He attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church.  During his leisure, he enjoyed riding in his truck, watching football and going to Outback Restaurant, enjoying his favorite barbecue ribs. 

His parents, Lillie Epps Byrd and Emmitt Joe Byrd; a son, Carl Byrd; grandson, Mark Byrd; brothers, Anderson, Ford, Daniel and Nathaniel Byrd, preceded him in death. 

Survivors are: loving sons, Kenneth and Mark Byrd; grandchildren, Samantha and Kenneth; beloved sister, Lillie Byrd Matthews; devoted niece, LaToya Matthews; nephew, Nathaniel Byrd; great-niece, Miaen Davis; favorite aunt, Nellie Thigpen; special relatives, Renae Saddler, John Herman Adams, Tonya Stokes, Hannah and Haven Stokes; special caregiver, Carletta Singletary; additional nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Graveside services will be conducted 9:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2023 from the National Veterans Cemetery, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury with Pastor Cory A. Graves presiding.  Public viewing will be Wednesday afternoon at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street, Reidsville.
