It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth “Lib” Jerlene Southard Alverson, also affectionately known as Nannie, announce her passing on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 while resting at home.
Elizabeth was born on February 4, 1938 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late John Ashby Southard, and Daisy Tilley Southard. Elizabeth retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company in Greensboro after 42 plus years of service. She was a faithful member of Comer’s Chapel Church in Madison, NC where she enjoyed fellowship and praise.
Elizabeth was well known for her home cooking, especially her famous pineapple cake and her love to clean keeping her home immaculate. She most loved spending time with her family, especially having everyone together at her home every Christmas Day, and Easter Sunday where she held egg hunts with the grandchildren. Nannie was devoted to her step-children and grandchildren. She will forever live in our hearts and will be missed dearly.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Billy Alverson; her brother, James Southard; her nephew, Tommy Southard, and her step-daughter, Kay Ore, as well as her parents.
She is survived by her step-children, Billie Lee Whitt of Virginia, Scarlette Barefoot of Reidsville, and Keith Alverson of Madison whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her nephew, Sammy Southard and wife Lynn, their two children, Stephanie and Tyler; grandchildren, Kelly Pruitt and husband Lee, Dink Robertson and wife Alicia, Kristen Brim and husband Kevin, Bethany Whitt Fielder of Virginia, Tiffany Whitt Smith of Virginia; great-grandchildren, Mazie Brim, Kole Pruitt, Kadence Pruitt, Ethan Viers, Bradley Viers, Preston Robertson, Dylan Robertson, Kinleigh Robertson, Lillie Smith and Lucian Smith and great-great-grandchildren, Riley Robertson and Little Hazel Robertson.
