Obituary: ELIZABETH JEAN MABE

Elizabeth Jean Brewer Mabe, 86, born June 29, 1937, entered into eternal rest September 3, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born in Rockingham County, to the late Edgar Brewer and Ardenia Jones Brewer. She was co-owner of Mabe Septic Tank Company, and attended Buffalo Primitive Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, quilting, and cooking. Holidays and special occasions were a highlight in her life, as well as spending time with her family and dear husband. Jean’s favorite time of the year was making molasses on their farm in the fall.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Margaret Gann, Josephine Martin, Nancy Bullins, David Brewer, and Samuel Brewer.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Harold Mabe; children Debbie Paris (Berk), Tommy Griffin (Sharon), Lisa Greene, Mark Mabe (Angie) and Michael Mabe; grandchildren Brandon Griffin (Keira), Meredith Leonard (Justin), Aaron Griffin, Megan Riley, Emily Dean (Tristan), Xavier Marshall, Emma Mabe, Eli Mabe, and great-grandson Jacob Griffin. Also left to cherish Jean’s memory are siblings Junior Brewer, James Brewer, Daniel Brewer, Philip Brewer, Kenny Brewer, Mary Fallin, Rachel Harrison, Lois Knight, and Priscilla Hunsucker.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with interment following at Snow Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice for Jean’s end of life support and care.
