Obituary: DOUGLAS KENNEDY

Douglas Kennedy, age 62, passed away on February 7, 2025 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. He was a beloved father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Doug was born on July 21, 1962 in Albion, Michigan. He went on to graduate and later worked as a maintenance technician at the local textile mills in Eden, NC. He was always eager to share his knowledge of electrical and mechanical work, welding, and just fixing things.

Before his medical condition took a turn for the worse, Doug enjoyed riding his Harley, riding in poker runs, participating in the annual Give a Child a Smile stew, fishing, and helping others. Doug experienced serious medical problems at an early age but managed his own care until September of 2022. His wife, Rosemary Kennedy, began to manage his care until the day he passed away. He fought many serious diagnoses during this time but lost the battle.

He was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. Doug, along with his family, has made anonymous donations (charity, disaster, or a person down on their luck) to make a person’s life a little easier without the need for recognition. But more than anything, Doug was devoted to his family.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary, his children, Tommy Kennedy (Kari), David Kennedy, and his grandchildren, Hailey Kennedy (Nicole Williams, Hailey’s Mother), Jacob Kennedy, and Alli Kennedy. Grandson by fate, Hayden Hutton. His stepmother, Helen Kennedy and Brothers Jeff Van Nocker (Lisa). Doug also wanted mentioned his brother by fate, Steve Summers (Tami), their children, Tamika Richardson (Brandon) and Holly Summers. He loved his family dearly. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Doug is predeceased by his father, Tom Kennedy and his mother, Nancy O’dell.

A memorial service will be held for family and close friends at Colonial Funeral Home on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Visitation will be at 6 pm with a memorial service at 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Give A Child A Smile, 2143 E. Stadium Drive, Eden, NC 27288.
