Obituary: DORIS T. CLIFTON

Doris T. Clifton, 83, died on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gerald Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Stoneville Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Clifton was born on September 12, 1941 in Rockingham County to the late Lester C. Thomas and Sarah Isabelle Thompson Thomas. She cleaned homes for a living and enjoyed sharing her beautiful alto voice with all of those around her. Doris read her Bible daily, finding strength and inspiration in her faith in Christ. She will be remembered not only for her independence, but for the warmth and love she brought into the lives of her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Jackson Clifton; daughter, Sheila Clifton Rhodes; grandson, Brandon Griffin; sister, Christine Burgess and brothers, Donald Thomas and Junior Thomas.

Survivors include her children, Sheryl C. Mathis (Scott), Sharon C. Davis (Ted) and Aaron Clifton (Crystal); grandchildren, Jeffrey Mathis, Jr., Christopher Mathis, Heather Duff, Austin Rhodes, Jackson Clifton, Summer Clifton, Nicolas Woodlief and Brooke Cox; great-grandchildren, Zoe Rhodes, Scarlett Rhodes, Sophia Griffin, Noah Duff and Noel Duff; brother, Luther Thomas; sister, Brenda Collins (Gerald) and special friend, Roy H. Dick.
