Obituary: DORIS JEAN NELSON

Doris Jean Nelson, 76, left this earthly life on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at New Life Baptist Church with Pastor Nathan DeFalco officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Mrs. Nelson, also known by her family as “Nanny” was born on November 29, 1945 in Guilford County to the late James Hilton Ashby and Cora Jane Rickman. Doris retired from Burlington Industries and then became a homemaker. She will always be remembered for her deep love and devotion to her family and caring for her husband. She would always find an occasion to celebrate in order to get her family together, as her family was her everything. Doris loved racing, crocheting and Elvis and having a cup of coffee on her porch.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jamie Hanson.
Survivors include her beloved husband of fifty-seven years, William Berkley Nelson; children, Debra Morton, Rebecca Tate (Lee), Rachel Nelson, William Michael Nelson (Kayla), Glenn Labounty (Crystal McMillon) and Donna Hanson; grandchildren, Abbie Nelson, Eli Nelson, Wesley Tate, Christine Williams, Kevin Morton, Robert Hanson, Sabrina Hanson and Brianna Labounty; ten great-grandchildren and special neice, Grace Rhodes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 1201 Bald Hill Loop, Madison, NC 27025.
