Donna Raye Pitman, age 77, of Reidsville, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
Born on July 20, 1947 in Rome, Georgia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Raymond Hyde and Mildred Cornwell and the granddaughter of Horace and Minnie Cornwell.
Donna was baptized as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 15, 1962, and devoted her life to her faith. She cherished her ministry and was privileged to study the Bible with 52 individuals, assisting 18 of then to the point of baptism. Her religious life instilled a strong code of ethics that shaped both her spiritual work and he successful secular career.
Donna works for the state of Georgia for over 33 years, beginning in special education and later transitioning to the Department of Corrections. She was recognized for her exceptional dedication, including a feature in the “Executive Spotlight” in the 2020 Who’s Who of Professional Women.
Known for her warmth and kindness, Donna never met a stranger and had the ability to connect with people of all ethnic and religious backgrounds. One of her greatest joys was thrift shopping, especially at Goodwill stores, where she found treasures and shared her discoveries with others.
Donna is survived by her loving husband, Howard “Randy” Pitman, who resides in Reidsville, NC; her son, Jerry Michael Poole of Reidsville, NC; her grandsons, Joshua Poole of Silver Creek, GA and Jake Poole and wife Casey of Rome, GA; and her brother, James Hawkins of Calhoun, GA. She is also fondly remembered by her many friends and her spiritual family in the Rome, GA and Eden, NC Kingdom Halls.
Donna’s life was a testament to her faith, love, and integrity, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jehovah’s Witnesses.
