Obituary: DONALD WAYNE JOYCE

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Stuart Jones officiating. A celebration of life visitation and luncheon will follow the graveside service in the church fellowship hall. Friends may sign a register and view Mr. Joyce from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison.

Mr. Joyce was born on August 11, 1948 in Rockingham County to the late Morris Joyce and Mamie Smith Joyce. He attended Madison Mayodan Senior High School and graduated from Rockingham Community College. Donald farmed for a number of years before going into textiles, where he was a supervisor until his retirement. Following retirement he worked as a manager for the Salvation Army for several years. He was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church.

Donald loved all sports, especially softball, where he played a number of years with the Sandy Ridge Loafers. He enjoyed visiting Myrtle Beach, eating at Peaches and listening to music and shagging. Donald lived life his way and enjoyed it to the fullest. His greatest love was being called, “Papa.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pee Wee and Beatrice Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Wilson Joyce; step-son, Buddy Rierson and wife, Misti; grandchildren, Cheyenne (Wade), Jade (Dustin), Mack (Logan) and Mitch (Rebecca and canine, Marley) Rierson; great-grandchildren, Finlee and Korra Rayne; step-grandchildren, Hope, Rosie, Emberlyn and Ava Turpin; his two canine loves, Tank and his namesake, Ducky Wayne; special cousin, Todd Tilley and several extended family members and friends.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church.
