It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Donald J. Margensey, 91, of Eden, North Carolina, who peacefully passed away at his home on October 15, 2022.
Donald was born in Syracuse, New York in February 1931, one of seven children and attended school in Onondaga County. His parents, Joseph and Stephanie (Hrab) Margensey and his siblings preceded him in death. He met and married Margaret J. Hutson and they shared 53 years together before her passing in 2007.
Donald, a master carpenter by trade, worked for construction firms in New York State and along the Mid-Atlantic in supervisory positions until his retirement. He was active in Cooperative Christian Ministries, served as a Guardian Ad Litem for Rockingham County, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and supported the Church of the Epiphany in several capacities over the years.
Donald is survived by his children – Antonio Battistella of Charlotte, NC; Jeanne Purdy of Eden, NC; Karen Margensey of Fredericksburg, VA; and Jeffrey Margensey of Eden, NC. His grandchildren include Jennifer Thomas, Margaret McGuire, James Purdy, Edward Sullivan, Stefanie Juul, and Hannah Bahena. Donald’s much loved great-grandchildren consist of Gavin McGuire, Mason Bahena, Meredith McGuire, Anna Bahena, and Madison Bahena. Donald’s family also included many nieces and nephews who mourn his loss.
Donald’s cremated remains will be laid to rest next to his father and his wife, in Church of the Epiphany’s churchyard after a brief graveside service. A Celebration of Life service will be announced by the family. All are welcome to attend the services.
