Donald “Don” Wayne Hill, Sr., 72, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday afternoon, May 18, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Don was born in Guilford County on July 31, 1950, to the late Luther and Lucille Butler Hill. An avid outdoorsman for many years, he took every opportunity to enjoy and share, with family and friends, all things outdoors. He enjoyed camping, no matter the season. He loved the hunting sports, and he shared that passion with his sons and grandchildren, passing along a tradition that is alive and well to this day as the next generation continue living his dream of a life outdoors. Active in his community, believing in service to others, he was heavily involved with the Stokesdale Fire Department, serving as member of the board of directors for nearly 20 years. He was an entrepreneur, operating a small business from his home in Stokesdale for 15 years. Don was a member of the Stokesdale Masonic Lodge for many years. He was a man of faith and a member of Summerfield Baptist Temple.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Hawks Hill; two sons, Donald Wayne Hill, Jr. (Amy) and James Bradley Hill. Five grandchildren, Hunter, Nicholas, Austin, Haley and Kirstin Hill; three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Ezra and Kingsley Hill; one brother, William V. Hill; aunt, Grace Shoemaker; special caregiver, Andrea Messina and numerous cousins.
Don, Dad, Pop, you will sorely be missed by family and friends. Your smile and quick wit would light up a room. Our love for you and the memories we have will be cherished forever and we will honor your memory by always serving others before serving ourselves, by taking time to pause and wonder at all of God’s beautiful creations and living each day as if it were our last.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Road, Suite #250, Charlotte, NC 28209
