Don Hardre Middleton (July 11, 1936 – January 22, 2024), 87 years old, passed away at Wesley Long Hospital after a short stay.
He was a humble man; always open to talk and fellowship with friends. He was proud of his service to the Greensboro Fire Department, Guilford County Fire Marshall’s Office, Greensboro and Madison Police Departments, and the N. C. Army National Guard. He felt especially honored to go on an Honor Flight to DC and enjoyed telling everyone about it. He was also a faithful member of the Stokesdale Masonic Lodge with over 50 years of membership as a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Mauldin Middleton; his parents, John Arthur and Naomi Jane Webb Middleton, along with eight sisters, Vertie Loyd, Grace McCollum, Alma Fields, Mildred Poland, Inez Hendrix, Rheba Wood, Erlene Middleton and Eunice Smith; and two brothers, Wallace and Curtis Middleton. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan “JW” Thompson and a great-grandson, Jacob “Buddy” Rice.
He is survived by a daughter, Donna Thompson (Mike) and a son, Andrew “Andy” Middleton (Dale Rea). He had six grandchildren, Jessica Rice (Nick), Samantha Thompson, Cole Middleton, Alicia Coe (Eli), Chase and Cody Middleton and four great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Rowdy Thompson and Kati and Madi Rice along with many nieces and nephews and special friends.
He loved the Lord and his church, his family, his best little furry friend (Barry), his community and his country. He was a good and Godly man and will be missed by all who knew him.
