Obituary: DILLARD WOODS

Dillard Woods, 77 of 176 Washburn Lake Road, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at his home.

Services will be held 3:00 PM, Friday, May 24, 2024, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Woods officiating. The burial will follow in Danview Cemetery in Eden. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dillard was born in Rockingham County to the late Tom and Eliza Austin Woods. He worked for Asplundh Tree Company for over 25 years and later was the co-owner of Woods Brothers Tree Service. He was affectionately known as the Walmart Man. He was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan and was faithful to watch the Sunday race! Dillard enjoyed the old Western TV shows, and always made time to hunt and fish. He attended the Bible Way Community Church. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Debra Carter Woods and one sister and six brothers; and step granddaughter, Hope Poindexter.

Dillard is survived by his daughter Sandra Martin and husband, Randy; grandsons Dylan Martin and Neil Martin and wife Brently; stepchildren Michael Poindexter and wife Tammy and Lisa Michelle Poindexter; step grandchildren Zachary Joyner and wife Bri, David Thomas, Brendan Poindexter and Brianna Poindexter; brothers Leon Wood and wife Janet and Lester Woods and wife Darlene; and a large extended family.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Billy Barber for his faithful care of Dillard over the last month.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contribution be made to ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
