Obituary: DAVID ALLEN HUGGINS

Reverend David Allen Huggins quietly passed, as he was called from time to eternity, to meet his Maker and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, on March 14, 2025.

Dave was born to Rev. Francis Marion and Grace Graves Huggins on May 10, 1932 in Belmont, North Carolina. The family moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina where he graduated from Saluda High School. In 1954, he graduated from North Carolina State College with a degree in Textile Design. In 1955, he married his beloved wife, Peggy Joyce Phillips. After a brief career with Deering Milliken, he answered the Lord’s call to ministry. He and his young family moved to Wake Forest, North Carolina where he attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He graduated from seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity with Languages in May of 1963.

In June of the same year, the Lord led Dave and Peggy to First Baptist Church in Reidsville, North Carolina, where he began his ministry. He showed his love for the church by the various roles in which he served. In later years, he filled interim pastoral positions at several churches, including Calvary Baptist Church and Baptist Temple Church.

Reidsville truly became home to Dave and Peggy. Their affection for it was evident in his active involvement in the community, which included Lions Club, YMCA, Hospice and Habitat for Humanity, among others.

Dave is survived by his wife, Peggy, and his children: Robin Ferguson (Chuck), Tamee Schofield (Chris), and Shaun Huggins (Lois). Survivors also include his six grandchildren: Zach Ferguson (Maegan), Whitney Barefoot (Jason), Heidi Schofield, Hannah Rodríguez (Jaime), Haley Bowman (Brian) and Hilary Schultz (Joey) and 15 great-grandchildren.

Dave was preceded in death by an infant son, David Kipling Huggins and grandson, Shane Kipper Ferguson, as well as his parents, his siblings Anne Pressley, Frank Huggins, Charles Huggins and Elaine Barnwell.

The family will receive friends at visitation at Citty Funeral Home in Reidsville, North Carolina from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025. The memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Reidsville, North Carolina on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Reidsville, North Carolina and Rockingham Council of Bible Education, P.O. Box 91, Reidsville, North Carolina 27323.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, contacts and support of innumerable people. We are also appreciative for the excellent care provided by Transitions Hospice Care and ComforCare of Raleigh, North Carolina.
